Home Appliances are products that helps us in all our everyday household tasks at home. They ensure comfort and efficiency to families all over the world. Buying home appliances is also like an investment for your home that you need to take care of. These items can surely last long if taken care of appropriately. Appliances, also have their limits, always keep that in mind. Time will come that your chore- buddies will stop working if not maintained properly. Though there will be times that you would require a technician’s assistance, it would be a great advantage if you know the basics of proper care for these life savers. Here are some basic tips of how to maintain your appliances.
Washer and Dryer
-First thing to keep in mind when caring for your washer is to not overload it. When you buy these machines, the maximum weight per load will be indicated in the packaging and the manuals. However, it is best to wash and dry smaller amount of loads to prolong it’s working life.
-Never wash heavy and huge carpets and rugs in your washer
-Always keep the door open every after washing and drying your clothes to let the dampness and moisture completely evaporate. This will also help avoid unwanted odor inside your machine. And, once a week, take time to wipe off dirt and soapy residue inside the drum using clean damp cloth.
-NEVER heat your food using a metal container or even an object with just a metal trim, same as for the aluminum foil, spoon and forks. This may cause fire and explosion
-Do not heat sealed container or packed food and beverage items and any flammable food and beverages.
-I know some wanted to cover up appliances, most especially if it is not in use. According to research, you should not cover the top part of it after using it.
-Wipe and clean out all residue, spills and stains inside the microwave. You can also try combining 1 TB of lemon juice 1 part water and heat it for 3 to 5 minutes. This will help you easily remove the stains and remove unpleasant odor inside.
Refrigerator
- Never overload the refrigerator as it makes the compressor to work continuously and more than average to keep the food, beverages and everything else fresh and of course cold.
-Check out the rubber linings along the door’s edge. This keep the warm air out. As time goes by, these rubbers will eventually crack and break because of oldness and will make the refrigerator. This can easily be replaced when needed. Clean this rubber door gasket with warm water and a sponge regularly and never use detergents as it can be damaged. You can also apply petroleum jelly to prevent it from cracking.
- Clean your refrigerator every two weeks and take out spoiled food and those that have been inside for the longest time.
-Check out the items before putting them inside the refrigerator as not all items are to be stored in it. Check out proper storage of everything you buy.
- Clean the coils of your refrigerator. This will not only help your appliance cool more efficiently, but also help you save more money because of lower electric or utility bill.
Dishwasher
-Never over load your dishwasher during each load. This will only cause unclean dishes and you will end up cleaning it by hand or redoing a cycle.
-Scrape off left overs off the dishes and containers before putting them into the dishwasher.
-Regularly wipe off the interior part of the unit, to clean out residue and to avoid having bad odor inside.
-If your dishwasher no longer “cleans” dishes, then it’s time for major cleaning. Not getting your dishes and containers cleaned is probably caused by a clogged filter. Use a wet and dry vacuum to clean off the screen, then your unit will be all good now.
Oven and Stove
-Most ovens are actually self-cleaning while stoves can easily be cleaned when done regularly.
-Always make sure that the gas burners are not blocked. Usually, a stove will not turn on especially if there are spills on it. You can use an old toothbrush to thoroughly clean and brush off the food spills from the igniter.
- If you are using an electric oven, make sure to clean it up every after use. This is to avoid anything residue to be left on it and dries up, which in time will be a cause of bad odor stinking up the house.
-Make sure to vacuum all surfaces, including the fins on the external part of the unit itself before hauling it off the window. After winter season like in the City of Chicago, this type of air conditioner will surely hold up nasty dirt and stuff like dead bugs, dust or even contain the worse like mouse droppings and molds.
-Pull out the cover panel and vacuum it thoroughly.
-Clean the foam filter and plug it in to blow the dust and dirt off. Remember to do the last part outside or in the garage and not in your bedroom. *wink*
