Quick tour to Chicago's Suburbs

There are a lot of places to see outside the City by the Lake. They offer vast activities and multiple sights to see. Here are some of them:

45 minute drive from O’ Hare International airport is Geneva. There are a lot of parks and museum worth visiting in this part of Illinois. Some of these are Island Park ,that offers tree house themed playground and picnic ground; Wheeler Park, that caters sports activities; Peck farm and butterfly park that lets you be with nature; Geneva History Museum, Batavia Depot Museum and Friendship of the Viking Ship are some well worth gallery to stop by; but one stands out – The Fabyan Estate.

A must see is the Old Dutch Windmill which has a profound history worth knowing. There is also the Villa that was re-designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1907. Albert Einstein was once a guest to this house that has some of Fabyan’s collections such as photographs and some furniture. Guests will surely be delighted by its Japanese Garden (The Garden of Phoenix) 1910.

An estimate of 20 minute drive from Geneva will bring you to Aurora. It boasts Phillips Park that has the 1915 Zoo. The park houses more than 40 species of native birds, mammals and reptiles. Phillips Park zoo is simple and free of charge. Adjacent to the zoo is an 18 hole golf course and driving range. Another great place to spend the afternoon is their garden that has a bike trail and Skate Park plus a playground for the kids near Mastodon Lake named after an elephant like animals remain was found.

For shoppers, there is their Fox Valley Mall and Chicago Premium Outlets. It has over 160 premium brands and exclusive designer stores. Don’t miss the Aurora Farmer’s Market as well, where local farmers and tradesmen sell their craft and produce.

Spend 25 minutes or less on the road and you will reach Naperville from Aurora.

Millennium Carillon in Moses Tower that commemorates the coming of the New Millennium was built in 1997. It has 72 bells in the 16 story assembly. A guest can climb the 253 steps that can enjoy the Chicago skyline on a clear day but one can stay on the Gallery Level Observation Deck using an elevator.

Naper Settlement, Du Page Museum, First Division at Cantigny, and Jurica – Suchy Nature Museum are some interesting gallery to drop by. There are numerous parks and reserve that tourist shouldn’t be missed.

Oak Park, which is 27 miles off Naperville, offers extensive and unique range of attractions. One of them is the Ernest Hemingway Birthplace and Museum. This place was acquired and restored by the Ernest Hemingway Foundation in 1992 with the help of preservation architect John Thorpe that provided pro bono service. A quick stop at Cernan Earth and Space center with the kids to watch diverse sky and earth show is also a must. Another display that visitors must see is the Oak Park Conservatory that has three botanical indoor areas for cacti to palms. Riverside Historical Museum offers photos, artifacts and other materials that highlight the plans of Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted.

For someone who loves the sea – Gilson Park can be visited for a short walk on the shore after that trip from Baha’i. This reserve has beach access for the public for swimming, picnic, and other activities outdoor.

A quick 15 minute drive will bring you to Evanston from Wilmette. The intense change that took place in this town moved seven residents to establish the Evanston History Center. The deaths of the earliest occupant of the place made them realize the loss of its history thus they begin collecting artifacts and started documentation. The building was originally the house of Charles Gates Dawes where the organization moved into in 1960 after the death of the owners. Houses today offers a lot of resources for researchers and other enthusiast.

Dearborn Observatory is open for the public where anyone can use the Historic 18.5 inch refracting telescope from 8 to 10 PM every Friday. Before heading to this place, guests will pass by a significant garden that marked the 300 the death anniversary of William Shakespeare. It boasts 29 types of flowers with sculptures in between.
